KANNAPOLIS — A Kannapolis man is behind bars facing sex charges.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Jeffrey Shane Culbertson, 18, of 8480 Dogwood Drive, with statutory rape/sex offense of a 13-year-old female last week.
Capt. John Sifford said Detective Sara Benfield received a call from the victim’s father on May 18. He told Benfield that Culbertson had contact with his daughter between Jan. 1, 2010, and May 2011.
Sifford said it’s believed that Culbertson had sexual contact with the girl in July 2010 and April 2011 and that the two met at a mutual friend’s house.
Culbertson and the girl originally met through the social networking site Facebook.
He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
