Daimler Trucks North America announced Thursday that it plans to sharply increase production and employment at its truck-manufacturing plants in Mount Holly, Portland, Ore., and Saltillo, Mexico.
Of the 1,230 positions to be filled at those plants, 535 will be at the Mount Holly Freightliner plant. The company also will add 120 shop and staff employees at its parts manufacturing plant in Gastonia and 10 shop positions at its Cleveland plant.
The announcements come after the company added a shift at the Cleveland plant in 2010 and filled more positions in May as part of a 1,300-job expansion announced earlier this year.
A press release said the company expects to fill the majority of the new manufacturing positions at its U.S. plants with workers currently in layoff status who will be recalled in order of seniority. Interested potential applicants can contact the N.C Employment Security Commission office or visit the companyĆs website for more information.
The Cleveland positions will be filled by the end of July, the Mount Holly positions by September and the Gastonia jobs by early in the fourth quarter of this year, the company said.
