A teen-ager has been charged with break-ins in the Eastland Drive area of Rockwell.
Heath Allen O’Brien, 18, was arrested in Rockwell in the early morning hours today. He is being held under a $10,000 secured bond.
On June 1, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office began investigating reports of numerous car break-ins in the Eastland Drive area of Rockwell.
The cars were broken into during the night while the residents slept. A .38 special gun was stolen from one of the cars, as well as a child’s bike.
Detectives discovered that Aaron Yarborough lived close to the area and had been shot with a .38 special handgun. The victim gave conflicting stories concerning the incident, but eventually identified a subject only by the first name Heath as the person that accidently shot him.
On June 7, detectives received information that the stolen bicycle from the June 1 incident was at the shooting victim’s home.
Detectives recovered the stolen bike and discovered O’Brien was the person that had been on the bike, the same Heath that had “accidently” shot Yarborough.
O’Brien was identified as the suspect from the Eastland Drive car break-ins and warrants were obtained for his arrest.
During the investigation, detectives recovered other property that is believed to be stolen. Anybody with information can contact Detective Teresa Haupt, 704-216- 8702 or Lt. Chad Moose, 704-216-8687.
