SALISBURY — North Carolina Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program has a long history partnering with the local school system.
One way that 4-H partners with public, private and homeschool classrooms is through 4-H School Enrichment Programs.
School enrichment programs offer hands-on, experiential learning across a variety of topics to enhance classroom learning.
Rowan County Cooperative Extension will be offering training on our most popular school enrichment programs this summer for school teachers and 4-H volunteer leaders.
Trainings will consist of: aerospace, magic of electricity, embryology and soil solutions.
Through the aerospace program, youth are able to fly kites, participate in airplane contests, launch rockets, explore space, make a glider, construct a straw rocket and experience disorientation.
This program is developmentally appropriate for third- through fifth-grades. The aerospace training will be held on Friday, June 17, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Explore the Magic of Electricity on Friday, June 24, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. This curriculum helps fourth-grade students to explore magnetism, circuits, conductors and the flow of electricity.
Rowan County’s most popular school enrichment program is embryology.
Through the embryology program, youth can explore the science of embryology from egg to chicken. This curriculum is designed to correlate with the standard course of study for students in second grade. The embryology training will be held on Thursday, July 7, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The soil solutions program allows youth to explore the interdependence of plants and soils. With this curriculum, third-grade students will gain an understanding of nutrients, pollination and soil types. This training will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 14.
The cost for each workshop is $20, which covers materials, lunch and snacks.
