Sixty golfers participated in a benefit golf tournament for Rowan Helping Ministries May 14 at the Crescent Golf course.
The golfers and 30 sponsors raised more than $5,000.
ěWe wanted to help out and make a contribution by putting on a golf tournament and we had a lot of support and willing people to help which made it easier,î said committee member Ted Luther.
The committee hopes to make this an annual event for Rowan Helping Ministries.
Paul Rogers, a church and golf committee member, described Rowan Helping Ministriesí work as a calling. There are so many less fortunate people in real need during these tough economical times, he said, and ěwe are supposed to take care of our neighbors.î
Rowan Helping Ministries is a nonprofit operating an overnight shelter, soup kitchen, crisis assistance and other programs to help people in need in Rowan County.
