The New York Mets activated relief pitcher Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) on Monday.
Parnell has been out of action for a while. He was placed on the DL with a blood clot in a finger, and then was on a rehab assignment with Triple A Buffalo after that.
Parnell took the roster spot of shortstop Jose Reyes, who was placed on the bereavement list Monday afternoon after he learned of the death of his grandmother in the Dominican Republic.
n Intimidators sweep
The Kannapolis Intimidators swept visiting Hagerstown 3-0 and 4-3 on Monday afternoon.
Brady Shoemaker and Dan Black hit homers for the Intimidators, and Paul Burnside pitched a two-hit gem in the opener.
The teams finish their four-game series tonight at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
n Prep baseball
There were three wild games on Memorial Day as South Stanly, East Rutherford and T.C. Roberson won Western Regional series and earned berths in the state championships.
n South Stanly won the 1A West crown by pummeling Murphy 19-8.
n Alex Ledfordís walk-off grand slam propelled T.C. Roberson to a 7-3 win against Southeast Guilford and the 4A West title.
n Brock Heltonís three-run homer lifted East Rutherford to a 9-7 comeback win against East Lincoln for the 2A title. East Rutherford overcame a 6-0 deficit.
n South Point had the only sweep in the West, taking the 3A regional crown with two victories against Marvin Ridge.
