On May 13, China Grove Elementary School concluded a week of Relay for Life events and fundraising.
The challenge made to the school was to have a short term goal of $2,000 raised by May 12 so that Principal Jenny White would have to dress in Duke University attire.
This goal was achieved, and she sported a Duke T-shirt, hat and face paint. Events at the school concluded with a water balloon toss by the top fundraising teacher and top fundraising student. Lauren Sneed and Austin Peacock from third grade won the event.
Following the balloon toss, students released balloons in honor or memory of cancer victims. At the end of events, including the Relay event at the Rowan County Fair Ground, China Grove Elementary had raised a total of $4,830.70. Team Captain Ronnell Grubb would like to thank all of the students, parents, and community members who contributed to this very important cause.
