The Carson High School Fine Arts Department presents “Seussical the Musical!” — a high-speed, colorful romp through the pages of Dr. Seuss — perfect for 8-year-olds or those who simply wish they were eight again.
The story is based around Horton the Elephant (R.J. Ellenburg) who finds the tiniest planet in the sky, the world of “Who,” on a clover. There he meets Jojo (McKenzie Eury) and the young boy brings the play to life through his “thinks.”
“Seussical” brings to life all the famous characters you remember: The Cat in the Hat (Ryan Miles) moves the story along as the narrator and Gertrude Mcfuzz (Amanda Girelli) and her one feather tail go through quite an adventure trying to gain Horton’s attention. Those are just a few of the legendary characters that will come to life on stage at Carson High School this weekend.
“The cast and crew are the most talented and exciting we have had yet.” says director Alex Reynolds.
“Last year we didn’t know how we could replace our senior class who were so pivotal in the success of selling out three nights of ‘Footloose.’ So many students came to see the show and decided it was time to bring their talent and enthusiasm to the stage, we had 140 students come out for auditions back in November and we began formal rehearsals in February.”
There are more than 70 in the cast, and adding in orchestra, technical crew and house managers, more than 100 students are involved — or about 10 percent of the student body.
“I am more proud of this cast and crew than I could possibly express,” Reynolds added.
“They have worked for months to bring this mythical world to life on stage. The orchestra has music in almost every scene, the drafting classes built the town of “Who-ville” to follow the walls of the auditorium and the Art classes have painted the set to look like Dr. Seuss books that are big enough you could literally jump right inside.”
“Seussical” runs tonight through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $6 on sale at Carson High school, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or at the door each night of the show.
