Here’s local reaction to news of Osama bin Laden’s death from Facebook and Twitter:
Dr. Michael Bitzer, Catawba College: “This is Obama’s ‘mission accomplished.’ May energize terror networks to strike, but the euphoria will be for several days/weeks.’”
Martha Bolmon: “Thank goodness! The American people can breathe a little easier tonight … may the victims of 9-11 now rest in peace.”
Timothy G. Livengood: “Saw on the news that Osama Bin Laden is dead…facebook confirms. Guess that war was worth it, huh liberals???? Now, let’s finish the job…”
Lisa Jones Pryor Stiller” “Proud to be an American; proud of all the brave souls who have worked tirelessly to bring justice to the innocent victims of this madman all over the world.’”
Mac Butner: “PRESIDENT OBAMA JUST WON RE ELECTION.”
Phillip Bradshaw: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET and Bin Laden found out the hard way.”
Drew Sechler: “Obama may be the current President (and rightfully so), but DO NOT forget Bush’s contributions.”
Jewell Rhodes Mayberry: “I’m relieved that no Special Forces were killed or wounded in the attack and that no more Americans will die because of this man. I hope the President’s speech brought some relief and some small feeling of justice to those most affected by 9/11. It’s been a long time coming.”
Terri Krider Hill; “Hooah to our Troops! We must all applaud the men and women that conducted this operation that has put an end to a very evil man, Usama Bin Laden! …
“Our Dearest Lord-please watch over and protect us and especially our troops in these upcoming weeks that could bring the unknown, Amen!”
Stacy Bowman Corriher: “Now let’s start bringing our Troops home!!!!”
Walter N Woodson: “Despite the rhetoric of the 2008 campaign, Obama maintained the goal of his predecessor and got the job done. Good for him. Consistency in policy, when it makes sense, pays dividends. W/re to his speech; he looked and sounded presidential. Things can change but Republicans have just hit a big bridge abutment on the way to 2012.”
Mark Twain — being quoted by several — “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.”
Sara Gregory: “ Do not rejoice when your enemies fall, and do not let your heart be glad when they stumble …” — Proverbs 24:17
