Two additional methamphetamine labs have been found by authorities in Rowan County and Charlotte following last night’s arrest of Richard Lee Jones.
In March, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office that a Rowan County man was involved in operating a methamphetamine lab at his home.
During the search of Jones’ home this morning, authorities found an additional meth lab in a safe inside his home.
Information found during the investigation was shared with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that allowed authorities to obtain a search warrant at Jones’ girlfriend’s residence on Nevin Road in Charlotte, where another meth lab was found.
Richard Lee Jones, 39, of 135 Hilltop Lane, was charged with possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemicals, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is in the Rowan County jail under a $150,000 bond.
Upon search of Jones’ home, authorities found 22 guns, 4 grams of finished methamphetamine, 200 mililiters of liquid methamphetamine and $400 cash.
Jones was given an additional bond of $100,000, and charged with possession of precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling to keep and store drugs, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine.
Authorities said Wednesday’s arrest was a joint effort between investigators from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, SBI, Mooresville Police Department and Salisbury Police Department.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office learned that Jones would be delivering methamphetamine to a location in the Atwell community, and investigators stopped Jones’ car, finding a methamphetamine lab in the trunk. Two grams of methamphetamine were also seized.
Investigators took the car back to Jones’ home and searched his home this morning.
