The National Weather Service has issued tornado, thunderstorm and wind advisories this afternoon.
The tornado watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. in Rowan, Cabarrus and Davie counties.
A thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 1:15 p.m. for eastern Rowan and northern Cabarrus counties.
Dopplar radar continued to indicate a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
These storms were located along a line extending from nine miles northeast of Spencer to Mount Pleasant, or along a line extending from Lexington to Concord moving northeast at 50 mph.
Other locations included in the warning are Rockwell, Craven and Gold Hill.
Thunderstorms occasionally produce tornadoes with little or no advance warning. Seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest level of a house or other sturdy structure if a tornado is spotted.
A lake wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected throughout the Piedmont in areas near lakes.
