SALISBURY — Police say two men entered a hotel room Tuesday night, attacking a Salisbury man and beating him so badly he had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to a report by the Salisbury Police Department, James Neil Scott and his girlfriend, Mary Ann Beason, were sitting in their hotel room at the Economy Inn on Bendix Drive with the door cracked, playing cards and watching television when two men entered — one with a gun — and began beating Scott.
Scott was hit in the head with a beer bottle, received a large gash on his head and several teeth were knocked out.
Beason managed to get out of the room and go to the front desk of the hotel to call 911.
Police responded and met Beason at the front desk, and found the assailants leaving the room and took them into custody.
Scott refused EMS treatment and went to the hospital on his own.
Police charged two men with the assault.
Shawn Christopher Shephard, 39, of 3303 Trent St., Apt. D, Greensboro, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and served a failure to appear warrant from Guilford County. He was given a $2,700 secured bond.
William Isaac Darryl Sanders, 28, of 818 Lincolnton Road, Salisbury, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was given a $5,000 secured bond.
