Teachers attend training

The staff from both Isenberg and Knollwood elementary schools completed training at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), Cullowhee.
The theme for the training was ěToy Boxî Leadership.
The staff studied various leadership styles and compared them to their favorite toys.
The staff also participated in sessions that focused on classroom rigor while promoting a positive school culture and team-building.
The staff studied meta-cognition and meta-cognitive strategies, technology strategies and literacy strategies. The schoolís curriculum coaches provided a preview on the new Common Core Standards.
Teachers also received training on math strategies by using hands-on equation.
Principals Shonda Hairston and Nathan Currie decided to focus on teacher leadership as teachers are now evaluated on this element. Currie explained the goal must be to empower teachers and students. Hairston stated it was a great time to allow teachers to collaborate and share best practices.
