Spencer discussed pawn shops

SPENCER ó When the Spencer town board this week considered allowing pawn shops downtown, many residents and business owners spoke up against the idea.
ěIt would be the death of us,î said Cara Reische, co-founder of the Green Goat Gallery.
The downtown is only three blocks long, they said.
ěAny space we might take up with a pawn shop would be one less coffee shop … or some other restaurant,î Melissa Blount said.
Aldermen agreed and said while downtown should not host pawn shops, the businesses might work in other parts of town. They asked the Planning Board to study the issue.
