Teacher's assistant charged with assault

Janet W. Pence, of 190 Morning Glory Lane, was charged today with assault on a handicapped person and given a written promise to appear in court.
The arrest warrant, issued today by Detective Clint Mauldin, said Pence “unlawfully and willfully did assault and strike” a student by “grabbing the left leg with sufficient force to cause injury.” The date of the alleged assault is April 4.
Pence is listed as an E.C. (Exceptional Children) Assisant in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools employee database.
Pence works at Knollwood Elementary.
