LAS VEGAS ó An NBA assistant, a fired university coach and two former Runnin’ Rebels are the four finalists vying to succeed UNLV’s Lon Kruger, who abruptly quit after seven seasons.
UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood announced Tuesday that Dave Rice, Mike Dunlap, Ernie Kent and Reggie Theus are being interviewed this week in the university’s search for a new men’s basketball coach.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. ó Fairfield University has hired Sydney Johnson as its head coach.
Johnson led Princeton to a share of the Ivy League championship.
KENT, Ohio ó Kent State has hired Rob Senderoff as its basketball coach.
Senderoff had been the Golden Flashes’ interim coach after Geno Ford left last week to take the job at Bradley.

LAWRENCE, Kan. ó Kansas will have junior guard Tyshawn Taylor and sophomore forward Thomas Robinson for at least one more season.
PITINO UPDATE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. ó The woman convicted of trying to extort millions of dollars from Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino has reported to a federal prison in Florida to begin serving a sentence of seven years.
Karen Cunagin Sypher, 51, checked into the minimum-security federal women’s prison in Marianna at 1:50 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.
