City manager confirmsemployee layoffs
Salisbury City Manager David Treme confirmed Tuesday night that the city laid off employees last week.
It is not clear how many people lost their jobs.
Treme said after the City Council meeting he did not have more information at hand and would provide details to the Post today.
In a Feb. 25 letter to all city employees, Treme warned of potential layoffs, furloughs and salary cuts next year in response to a $2.7 million budget shortfall.
Through March 31, the city was offering a three-month severance package for employees who took early retirement.
