CLEVELAND — A man is in jail after authorities say he choked his girlfriend while holding her in their home against her will.
David Brandon Mullins, 24, of 1081 Jesse Drive, faces charges of kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault on a female. He is under a $10,000 bond.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Mullins and his girlfriend, Amanda Lawson, 27, got into a fight Thursday, and Mullins refused to let Lawson leave.
On Sunday, Mullins took Lawson to her parents’ house in Statesville and told her to transfer money into an account Lawson and Mullins shared, the report said. When she got inside the home, she called 911 and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded. Lawson had bruises on her body and a minor wrist injury, the report said. She told deputies about the assault, and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home.
Lawson told deputies that she had been forced to stay inside her Cleveland home with Mullins since Thursday. Authorities would not say whether Mullins forced Lawson to stay in the home until Sunday, but said Mullins prevented Lawson from leaving the home Thursday.
