The Salisbury Police Department announced its reorganization last week and it involves many changes in the department, including the new street crimes unit.
The street crimes unit consists of one supervisor and seven officers who are divided into two teams “in order to get maximum coverage,” Police Chief Rory Collins said.
The unit’s name — PIT — stands for Police Interdiction Team, and the unit’s objective, Collins says, is to be “highly vigilant and aggressively battle against criminal activity,” in Salisbury’s neighborhoods, focusing on “hot spots” with the highest number of complaints.
