Local law enforcement agencies issued 17 speeding tickets in a two-hour period Wednesday afternoon, with one driver topping 85 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Through Sunday the Governorís Highway Safety Program and the N.C. Highway Patrol are conducting the No Need 2 Speed campaign, an initiative to catch speeders on North Carolinaís highways.
Wednesdayís local effort included the N.C. Highway Patrol, Salisbury Police Department, the Rowan County Sheriff Officeís ACE Team (Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team), as well as officers from other police departments in Rowan County.
An additional citation of failure to carry a license was also issued.
The campaign hopes folks will slow down when on local highways and roads, and encourages dangerous drivers to be reported to the highway patrol by dialing *HP on their cellphones.
