The Livingstone Theater Department will present the play “Steal Away” by Ramona King. The play is being directed by Linda Hunt, Director of Theater Arts at Livingstone.
Preview dates are March 30 and 31 and opening night is April 1. Show times are 7 p.m. nightly and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
“Steal Away” is a comedy about a group of five women in the 30s who face a financial dilemma during the Depression as they come together to send young black girls to college.
$5 general admission tickets can be purchased at the door and admission for students is free.

Waterworks art expo
Waterworks Visual Arts Center will host “An Evening in Monet’s Garden” preview party dinner and sale to kick off Artist EXPO 2011. Artist EXPO is a three-day juried art show and sale where over 50 regional exhibitors of fine arts and fine crafts will present and sell their work.
There will be French fare by Cartucci’s Restaurant (beer and wine included). Guests can meet more than 50 regional artists while having the first opportunity to preview and purchase artwork. Public days to shop the EXPO are Friday, April 8, 11a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 9, 10:30a.m.-4 p.m. Admission on public days is $5 per person.
Artist EXPO is located in the F&M Trolley Barn at 125 E. Liberty St. Proceeds support the educational and outreach programs of the Waterworks Visual Arts Center.
OCT presents ‘HONK’
CONCORD — Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale and from the song writers of Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, “Honk!” is a family show for all ages. It comes to the Old Courthouse Theatre stage March 31-April 17.

Fuller on Virginia Woolf
In conjunction with the St. Thomas Players’ production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” Catawba College professor Dr. Janice Fuller will explore the different voices of the English novelist. She will read excerpts from some of Woolf’s most important works.
The reading will take place Tuesday, April 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Salisbury Wine Shop, 106 S. Main St. The event is free.

Muse & Spirit Festival
Center for Faith & the Arts will hold the first Muse & Spirit Festival April 2 from 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m. at the Looking Glass Artist Collective’s black box theater. ‘Grand Slam’ auditions
Three white males are needed for the play “Grand Slam,” which will be performed at the Looking Glass Artists Collective Black Box Theatre on May 13 and 15.
Pitchvine Entertainment is holding auditions for one lead and two extras for the play, a period piece from 1950 to the early 60s: Doc Wise, racist and overbearing (50 plus); assistant to Doc Wise (40 plus) and a baseball game announcer (40 plus).
This play has been read at the 2005 national Black Theater Festival and the 2006 Greensboro Fringe Theater Festival.

Memorial concert
MISENHEIMER —On Sunday, April 3 at 4 p.m., Pfeiffer University will host a memorial service for Marvin W. Burke, a professor emeritus at Pfeiffer University who died Feb. 6.
The concert will be in the Pfeiffer Chapel on the Misenheimer campus. It is free and open to the public.
Selections include“Alleluia” by Randall Thompson, “He, watching Over Israel” by Mendelssohn, “Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace,” by Davis Stanley York, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” arranged by Rutter, and the last movement of the Brahms Requiem.
The choir will be conducted by Steve Harrill, assistant professor of music at Pfeiffer, a 1978 Pfeiffer graduate and former Burke student. Burke’s longtime friend and colleague, Stan Scheer, will serve as organist and choir accompanist. The Pfeiffer University Handbell Choir will also participate.
