North Rowanís baseball team beat Albemarle 9-2 Wednesday in the completion of a suspended YVC game.
Matt Laurens pitched four innings for the win. He struck out four and gave up five hits for the Cavaliers (4-1, 4-3).
Wesley Barker was 3-for-3 and scored twice. Alex Morgan was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Tyler Wyatt scored two runs, and Mason Jennings was 3-for-4.
Jacob Barber got the game-winning RBI as Davie edged West Iredell 4-3.
In a game that included a lightning delay and a loss of lights, Alex Newman was the big stick for the War Eagles with a two-run double and a triple.
Cory Randall came on in relief and needed only five pitches to record the win for Davie (7-2).
North Hills fell 7-5 to the Woodland Wombats. Blake Hickman went 1-for-2 and scored twice for the Eagles (2-2).
Bryson Shepherd pitched six innings for the Eagles.
Avery Bowles pitched six strong innings of one-run baseball, striking out seven, and East Davidson held on for a 9-6 win over Wheatmore.
East (5-5) got home runs from Tyler Stroup, Preston Gammons and Taylor Warren.
n Prep track
East Rowanís boys scored 70 points on Tuesday and topped Robinson (67) and North Davidson (49).
First-place finishers for East were Ben Hancock in the 100 (10.96 seconds) and 400 (51.13); Hakeem Gittens in the triple jump (41 feet, 9 inches), and Jordan Hopper in the discus (143-6).
Eastís 4×400 relay team of Hancock, Evan Hiatt, Joseph Furtado and Cole Honeycutt won in 3:36.
Finishing second for the Mustangs were Sam Sherman in the shot (49-10); Honeycutt in the 1600 (4:51) and 800 (2:06); Shawn Galloway in the 300 hurdles (43.24); Luke Wilkinson in the 200 (23.53); Dillon Arey in the pole vault (12-0) and Furtado in the 400 (53.59)
The 4×800 relay team of Brad Oden, Eli Walton, Furtado and Honeycutt was second in 8:36, and the 4×100 relay team of Dalton Bost, Cameron Feriante, Calvin Edwards and Wilkinson was second in 46.21.
East Rowanís girls scored 48 points and finished third in a meet with Robinson (86) and North Davidson (52).
Eastís Melissa Greene won the high jump (5-0), Kaleisha James won the 100 (13.56) and Ashley Brown won the discus (95-5).
n Prep softball
North Rowan suffered its first YVC loss Wednesday, falling 11-0 in Spencer to Chatham Central.
Chatham Central banged out 11 hits, three for extra bases.
North (5-2, 4-1) avoided a no-hitter when Jennifer Oakley doubled.
n Prep tennis
Lewis Young won 6-0, 6-0 and helped Salisbury to a 9-0 victory over Central Davidson on Wednesday. Also winning in singles for the Hornets were Steven Page, Alan Lebowitz, Seth Gentry, Brock Overcash and Alex Weant.
The Hornets improved to 2-0 in the CCC.
n Singles wins by Joel Brittain, Chris Holmes, Doug Petrea, Charles Hutton and Tyler Mullis led West Rowan to an 8-1 NPC victory against North Iredell.

n Prep golf
East Rowan (171) finished five shots behind winner Statesville in an NPC golf match on Wednesday.
Mason Preslar and James Lohr each shot 41 for East, as did Josh Lowder of South (187) and Matt Yates of Carson (188).
James DeCoster led West (185) with a 44.
n College baseball
Brett Underwood singled home John Neese with one out in the ninth to lift 23rd-ranked Catawba to a 6-5 win over 20th-ranked Belmont Abbey on Wednesday night at Newman Park.
Neese was hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth and stole second before Underwood lined a single to the wall in right-center to give Catawba (22-7) the victory.
Wil Huneycutt (3-0) got the win for the Indians with 22/3 innings of hitless relief.
Catawba used a dropped fly ball in the third to take a 4-1 lead. After the error and two walks, Garrett Furr and Chris Dula hit back-to-back two-run doubles.
Caleb Shore (South Rowan) was 1-for-4 and scored a run for Belmont Abbey (24-8). Blake Houston (South) and Ryan Bostian (South) had hits for Catawba.
Shore had two hits for Belmont Abbey in a win against Pfeiffer on Tuesday.
Bryanís Billy Veal (North Rowan) hit a walkoff, three-run homer for a 7-5 win against Bluefield.
Tanner Brown (North) won the final game of the Bluefield series for Bryan. He pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs in an 8-3 victory.
Appalachian Stateís Trey Holmes (East Rowan) had a hit and two walks in a 9-5 win against UNC Asheville on Tuesday.
Charlotteís Corbin Shive (East) drew an 11th-inning walk and scored as the 49ers beat Wake Forest 13-10.
Pitcher D.J. Webb (West Rowan) has been one of the standouts for Catawbaís Devo (developmental) team.
n College tennis
Catawba rolled to a 9-0 win over Livingstone in womenís tennis on Wednesday afternoon at the Johnson Center.
Catawba (12-9) did not lose a game.
n College softball
Catawba pounded out 33 hits and scored 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Anderson in SAC softball action on Wednesday afternoon at Whitley Field.
Alli Justice had six hits and accounted eight RBIs in the two games as Catawba (19-13, 2-2) won 10-4 and 13-5.
Livingstone (5-8, 2-7) lost to J.C. Smith 12-8 and 14-10 in a doubleheader played on Tuesday.
n College golf
Livingstoneís Lawrence McKenzie finished seventh Tuesday and the menís golf team finished fifth at the CIAA Northern Division Tournament hosted by Virginia State.
McKenzie shot 81-77 ó 158.
Virginia State won the team title.
Catawbaís womenís golf team finished 12th out of 17 schools at the Wingate Pinehurst Challenge. UNC Pembroke won the team title.
Catawba was led by Elizabeth Smith. She shot 79-80ó 159 and finished 16th.n NSSA names Jones
Greg Jones has been elected as the new president of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Foundation, Inc.
Jones replaces Bob Setzer who had served as president for eight years. Setzer will remain on the Foundation Board.
Two new members have also joined the Foundation Board: WSTP morning personality and play-by-play announcer Howard Platt and Salisbury Post publisher Greg Anderson.

Jones is a Newport News, Va., native, but moved to Rowan as a child. A graduate of East Rowan and UNC (1991), he is currently employed at Doran, Shelby, Pethel and Hudson in Salisbury, where he specializes in criminal, personal injury and contract law.
Jones is married to Kristie C. Jones, a Catawba graduate and kindergarten teacher in the Salisbury-Rowan School System. They have one son, T.J.
n Church League hoops
Love Christian Center topped Dorsett Chapel 64-56 behind 16 points by Brandon Finger. Tristan Rankin scored 20 for Dorsett.
Avery Patterson scored 30 points to lead Hallís Chapel to an 84-61 win against First Baptist of Salisbury.
Warren Williams led First Baptist with 29 points.
Rock Hill Journey outscored Cornerstone 81-63 with Justin Dotson leading the winners with 20 points.

The Rowan Hawks 14 baseball team battered Carmel Christian 13-1 to improve to 4-2.
Hunter Shepherd and winning pitcher Austin Love pounded out four hits each to lead a 13-hit attack.
The Hawks take on Gaston Day today at 4:30 p.m. at West Rowan Middle.
n Middle school golf
Logan Shuping shot an even-par 34 and led Erwinís boys to a 178-187 victory over West Rowan at McCanless Golf Club on Wednesday.
Jacob Durham was next for the Eagles with a 46, followed by Jimmy Ritchey (47) and Ike Emerson (51).
West Rowanís Denny Triche shot a 39, and Coyte Kyles followed with a 43. Marshall Ball and Owen Harrison shot 51 and 54, respectively.
Erwinís girls team had a 227 score with Kathryn Marcum (55), Macey Trexler (56), Taylor Garris (58) and Grace Stokes (58) having the top four scores. Kayce Wilson shot a 55 while competing in the boys tournament.
n Middle school baseball
West Rowan Middle opened with a 9-1 win against North Rowan. Tyler Poteat and Brian Ketchie combined on the mound for eight strikeouts and three hits. Margarito Romero, Jeremy Simpson and Omar Bautista led the Bulldogs with two hits each.
West plays Erwin today.
n Middle school tennis
Knox defeated Mooresville 7-2 with Abraham Post, David Derrick, Evan Dunn and Zane Gray winning in singles, and Post-Derrick, Robbie Slate-Dunn and Gray-Quson Brown winning in doubles.
n Sam Kennedy, Matt Long, Blake Shoaf, Chase Webb, Alexis Archie and Juwan Everett swept singles for West Rowan in an 8-1 win against North Rowan. Archie-Long and Kennedy-Malik Best won doubles matches.
n Middle school soccer
Southeastís girls opened with a 6-0 loss to China Grove.
Playing well for the Patriots were Karla Fragoso, Leslie Sanchez, Kylie Cox and Adna Jusic.
Southeastís boys rolled 9-0 against the Red Devils.
Brandon Flores scored three goals, Pedro Perez had two, and Daniel Nava, Sandi Jusic, Jose Viveros and Adolfo Ortega scored a goal apiece.
Leading the defense were Geovani Hidalgo, Jusic, Nava and keeper Diego Cruz.
West Rowanís girls won 4-0 against North Rowan.
Kelly Boley scored three goals, while Addie Coleman had one.
Maria Pampuch, Taylor Quinn and Claudia Patterson led the defense.
Westís boys lost 2-0 to North Rowan. Pedro Nichols and Arturo Carillo led Westís defense, and Mario Mercado had a strong game at midfield.
