Salisbury wins HUD planning grant
Salisbury has received a $170,000 grant from the federal government to plan the redevelopment of Civic Park Apartments in the West End neighborhood.
The city will use the award — a 2010 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant — to create a comprehensive plan to demolish and rebuild Civic Park Apartments, a 70-unit public housing project.
Salisbury will submit the plan next year as an application for a larger grant, up to $30 million, to implement the project.
Salisbury was one of 17 award winners announced today. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development received 119 applications for the new grant program and awarded $4 million in planning funds.
Federal, state and local officials will hold an award ceremony 9 a.m. Wednesday at the offices for the Salisbury Housing Authority.
