A Granite Quarry teen remains in jail today charged with drug possession after he ran from police officers following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.
Salisbury Police charged Christopher Cortez Fleming, 16, of 245 Vista Drive, with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture a schedule VI substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license, giving fictitious information to an officer and misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer.
Police officer Jennifer Moreau stopped Fleming because she was trying to let him know he was driving without his lights. She flashed him with her lights, but he continued to drive with his lights off. She eventually turned around and pulled Fleming’s vehicle over on Bendix Drive.
The officer inquired about the driver’s odd behavior because he seemed fidgety. She told him to stand at the back of his vehicle, which he seemed to do at first. When she asked the driver for identification he gave her two different names.
Fleming took off on foot down Faith Road, then crossed over at the intersection of Council and Innes streets, where he was caught.
The vehicle, a 1996 Honda Accord, was towed. Upon looking at the contents, officers discovered a black bag in the trunk with a Mason jar inside that contained 13 baggies of marijuana.
Also found in the car were a scale and other baggies.
Fleming remains in the Rowan County jail under a $20,000 bond.
