Officers have arrested two men in connection with a break-in on Bringle Ferry Road.
Deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a break-in in progress involving two men at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived, they observed two men leaving a wooded area near the reported break-in.
When questioned, the men reportedly said they had only stopped to use the bathroom.
A witness contradicted their statement, telling officers that they saw the men make two trips into a building at a home in the 5000 block of Bringle Ferry Road, loading items into the trunk of their car.
The two men were arrested after officers found scrap metal that matched items from the building.
Christopher Alexander Strachan, 24, and Michael Lewis Dawson, 19, both of Chez Charolais Road, were charged with felony breaking and entering a building, felony larceny, possession of stolen goods and possession of burglary tools. They were each given $10,000 secured bonds.
According to the report, Dawson told deputies that he and Strachan only needed one more load of scrap metal in order to buy a truck.
