A call to police about a strong smell of marijuana in a hallway of the Super 8 Motel, 925 Bendix Drive, warranted a visit by one of the Salisbury Police Department’s newest members, Rico, Officer Mark Hunter’s new K-9.
According to the police report, the hotel manager escorted Hunter and Rico to the hallway, and Rico alerted to room 227. A woman answered the door and a strong odor of marijuana and air freshener filled the room, the report said.
The woman, Kyra Suere Robeson, 31, of 518 E. Bank St., was asked if there were drugs in the room and she said there were and consented to a search, the report said.
Rico hit on the nightstand and opened the drawer, where he and Officer Hunter found 48.9 grams of marijuana inside, as well as seven individual bags weighing 8.1 grams. Two additional bags had a total weight of 40.8 grams.
A digital scale and razor blade were also found, as well as a Bryco Arms .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun and a full magazine of ball ammunition. Two boxes of sandwich bags were also found.
Robeson’s purse was searched, and $260 cash was found inside.
Robeson was charged with felony selling or delivering marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was given a $2,500 secured bond.
Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins said Rico has been hitting the streets for the past two to three weeks after training and certification.
Officer Hunter’s K-9 Smoke has become ill, Collins said, and will be retiring soon.
