Official: Emergency shelters not needed for now

Emergency officials say as of now that there doesnít appear to be a need for emergency shelters. Officials are cautioning against travel.
Emergency Services Director Frank Thomason said at this point, officials donít expect to have need of an emergency shelter for residents.
ěWe are are prepared for that, but not at this point. We do not anticipate having to open shelters,î Thomason said.
There are shelters identified, but none are open now.
ěWe have our local Red Cross staff, who is responsible for opening shelters, on standby,î he said.
He advised residents to look in on elderly or aged family members and neighbors during ths cold spell.
ěWhatís out there on the roads will continue to freeze,î he said.
ěThere will be sleet and rain mix overnight and the roads are expected to be treacherous in the morning,î Thomason said.
He recommends people not travel unless absolutely necessary.
