Family caregivers need not be alone
Family caregivers travel a rough and rewarding road. The upcoming classes offered by the local Red Cross will help them navigate uncharted territory.
No one can do it alone, but fortunately there are many resources to make the road less rocky.
Offering care Monday through Friday to frail elderly and disabled adults, Abundant Living Adult Day Services provides a loving environment which includes enriching activities, health monitoring, bathing, medication management, nutritious meals, beauty shop services and much-needed respite for caregivers.
The center is secured to allow safe wandering inside, as well as in the outdoor courtyard.
Assistance with the cost of services is available through the VA, CAPCARE, Department of Social Services, Rowan County Senior Services and long-term care insurance.
Do not wait to ask for help! Caregivers who provide 24/7 care cannot hold out for long.
If you are a caregiver, I encourage you to explore the services available in our community.
You don’t have to travel this road alone.
For more information on how Abundant Living can assist in the caregiving journey call 704-637-3940. (Abundant Living is a ministry of Lutheran Services for the Aging and a United Way agency.)

Free to breathe
Hallelujah!!
I have never been so happy as to see that North Carolina will be enacting a smoking ban as of Jan. 1!
It will be so refreshing to not have to breathe polluted air and see innocent children subjected to the noxious second hand smoke of irresponsible parents or caregivers in restaurants.
The next law I would like to see would be one that charges adults with child abuse for smoking around their children.I am so proud of our state government for protecting its citizens from this disgusting habit!
