Staff report
Just looking at the scores, East Rowan dominated.
The final standings were all that mattered, however. South Rowan was the only undefeated team in the annual Rowan County Wrestling Tournament, held Tuesday afternoon at East Rowan.
All six schools wrestled each other in dual meets. East won by scores of 69-12, 68-12, 66-12 and 51-19.
But when they faced South, the Mustangs fell to the Raiders 39-34.
And with the win, it ended three straight years of domination by Barry Justus’ East Rowan team.
Jake Freeman, the 135-pounder from South, was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. And he wasn’t the only Freeman to make the all-county team. Eli, the 145-pounder from South, also won his way on.
South also put Jonathan Ruiz (103), Seth Moore (140) and Thomas Lowe (189) on the all-county team.
South won its matches 59-24 over Carson, 44-36 over Salisbury, 54-21 over North and 45-31 over West.
East Rowan actually placed more on the all-county team: Mark Almeida (119), Chase Thompson (125), Josiah Hurst (171), Daniel Hadnot (215) and Chris Demitraszek (heavyweight).
