Don Rink knows the business of building houses. He has worked with Habitat for Humanity for a number of years. This week his wife, Sue, donated $100 to the Christmas Happiness Fund in honor of Don’s co-worker, David Rowh.
Rowh is the construction supervisior for Habitat for Humanity of Rowan County.
Because of the Rinks’ donations and others just like them, the Christmas Happiness Fund was able to help everyone who applied and was found eligible, said Social Services Director Sandra Wilkes.
Vouchers have been issued for 2,857 children.
“It is a great relief to know that help could be given to everyone who got their application in, completed as required, and who were within the income guidelines,” Wilkes said.
Sue Rink said Rowh does a great job in getting the houses built and directing the efforts of the many volunteers that have a diverse background, many who often have little or no construction experience.
“My husband tells me David’s very organized,” she said.
Organization is important with managing such huge projects, she added.
Her husband respects David’s work.
“He tells me all the time of what a good job he does,” Sue said.
The Rinks are Rowan County natives.
Don has worked with Habitat organizations in Concord and Our Town in Lake Norman.
“I think it’s wonderful how you get to help children. My kids are grown. It’s Christmas so you want to help anyone that you can. I sometimes think the giving part of it should be for children,” she said.
On Dec. 23, 2008, the contributions were at $70,641.17.
