Good samaritan’s car smashed

KANNAPOLIS ó A Winston-Salem man’s effort to help a stranded motorist resulted in his vehicle being demolished.
The mishap occurred Tuesday shortly before 11 a.m. at the Lane Street exit off Interstate 85.
Trooper M.W. Coley of the N.C. Highway Patrol said a disabled vehicle was parked in the emergency lane of the southbound side of the interstate.
Another vehicle had pulled into the emergency lane to provide assistance.
A minivan going south on I-85 veered into the emergency lane, coming close to hitting the disabled vehicle.
The driver of the minivan over-corrected, lost control, then got back into the emergency lane, striking the vehicle of the man providing assistance.
Two women in the van were taken to CMC-NorthEast Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
The other vehicle was unoccupied ó the driver was helping with the broken down vehicle.
The two vehicles, a Plymouth Voyager and a Nissan Quest, were destroyed.
Trooper Coley said all of the people in the three vehicles were from Winston-Salem. Their names were not immediately available.
