A man charged with helping students release hundreds of crickets at North Rowan High School last month has pleaded guilty on a charge related to that prank.
Meanwhile, the cases against the students have been continued.
Steven Thurston, 3580 Dixie Lane, pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting injury to real property today in Rowan County Superior Court.
Thurston is the stepfather of Amanda Elizabeth Sisco, one of the eight students charged with organizing and carrying out the senior class prank.
The charge against Thurston came when Spencer Police investigated and found that he accompanied his daughter to purchase crickets from Hill’s Minnow Farm.
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Suneson said Thurston’s sentencing has been continued until next month; she did not know the exact date.
The eight students’ cases have been continued until January 20 at the request of their attorneys, she said.
They are charged with breaking and entering and damage to real property.
Aiding and abetting injury to real property is a misdemeanor, with a maximum sentence of 120 days in jail.
But the judge has leeway to impose other punishments at his discretion, Suneson said.
