Area sports briefs: Davie boys romp

Davie County’s boys basketball team turned in its best effort of the season in an 84-54 romp against Starmount on Thursday.
“Right from the start, we were crisp,” coach Mike Absher said.
Jamal Mayfield scored 29 points and added four steals and four assists for the War Eagles (3-3). Mayfield made five of Davie’s nine 3-pointers.
Shannon Dillard had 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots for Davie. Nate Jones drilled two 3s and scored 14.
Davie’s girls did not play. They’re still 4-0 and play at Alexander Central tonight.

– Jayvee girls basketball
East Rowan’s girls beat Robinson 38-30 on Wednesday. Shanna Phillips and Allison Mills led the Mustangs with seven points each. Cacy Honeycutt had six points and four steals. Sydney Poole had five points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Jessica Rummage had five points and nine rebounds.
* Salisbury’s jayvee girls rolled over South Rowan 42-23 on Wednesday. Kaitlyn Jones and Maria Gaddy scored eight points each for South (6-2).
– 8th-grade hoops
Knox’s girls beat Southeast 44-22 on Thursday.
Nyasia Harris came through with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans. Monifa Angle had 12 points and seven assists. Brielle Blaire had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Southeast won the boys game 72-36. No details available yet.
* Erwin’s girls won their 20th straight regular-season game by beating North Rowan 44-25.
Erwin (7-0, 5-0) was paced by Karleigh Wike’s triple-double ó 19 points, 13 blocked shots and 12 rebounds. Josie McNeely and Lauren Thomas scored 11 points apiece. McNeely had six steals and four assists, while Thomas grabbed six rebounds. Haley Hepburn had five rebounds.
North Rowan (0-5) was led by Simone Blackwell with 14 points. Taylor Godfrey added six points for the Mavericks.
* North Rowan’s unbeaten boys took a 55-24 win against Erwin. The Mavericks (5-0) were led by Michael Bowman’s 13 points.
Michael Connor and Kasaun Coney had seven points each.
Cameron Sifford and Guy Winchester had six points apiece, while Rayshawn Ivery scored five.
Erwin (1-6, 1-4) was led by Calvin Edwards’ six points and seven rebounds. Derrick Blackwell added five points for the Eagles.
* West Rowan’s boys thumped Corriher-Lipe 57-26. Malik Crudup had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Daisean Reddick had nine points, and Tyler Kennedy scored seven.
Dalton Carter had 11 points for the Yellow Jackets. Mitchell Gray had eight.
– North Hills hoops
The North Hills Middle boys defeated N.C. School for the Deaf 43-35.
Luke Humble had 12 points for the Eagles. They play Sacred Heart on Monday.
* The North Hills girls won 36-10.
Candace-Craig Lyerly scored 12 points, while Natalie Whicker had 10.
– Prep wrestling
East Rowan defeated Salisbury 58-21 earlier this week.
Nick Cornacchione, Kory Shaffer, Cameron Ferrante and Josiah Hurst had pins for East.
Robert Luther, Blayne Johnson and Tre Jackson registered pins for the Hornets.
– Middle school wrestling
West Rowan topped Corriher-Lipe 84-12 on Wednesday.
Top Wrestlers included Tyler Sywenky, Thomas Current, Zack Russell, Robert Gaston, Brandon Lemmon, Wood Poteat, Nick Collins, Zack Sheppard, Davon Steele, Jesse Moore, Trey Brawley, Justin Gummo, Hunter Mesimer and Francisco Castro. West is 4-2 and 3-2 in the Rowan County Middle School Conference.
West wrestles China Grove at home on Monday.
– Pfeiffer athletics
The NSCAA named Pfeiffer soccer players Sara McCormack and Renato Barbosa to the All-Southeast Region team. McCormack was second team, while Barbosa was third team.
* Pfeiffer announced the signing of volleyball players Kim Amerall (Lynchburg, Va.) and Anna Vizvary (North Augusta, S.C.).
