With the observance of Pearl Harbor Day on Monday, Americans are once again reminded of the debt we owe those who’ve fought and died to preserve the freedoms we hold dear.
The Rowan Museum is currently hosting a special exhibit paying tribute to the men and women who served during World War II. “V for Victory: Uncommon Valor, Uncommon Virtue” includes many World War II-related artifacts from the museum’s own collections as well as items on loan from private citizens. They range from the conventional items of combat ó weaponry, communications devices, uniforms ó to unique items such as a handcrafted quilt made from military patches and another quilt stitched with the names of local men who served. Yet other displays feature badges, posters and photocopies of newspapers displaying the hometown headlines of the day.
The displays offer a fascinating history lesson while also illustrating the war’s impact on the local community.
The exhibit will run through mid-January at the museum, which is at 202 North Main St. in downtown Salisbury.
The museum is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 1- 4 p.m.
