MOCKSVILLE — More than 500 customers will not receive their holiday cakes and pastries from Ketchie Creek Bakery, a fixture in this Davie County town for more than 20 years.

Someone drove a pickup through the side of the bakery on U.S. 601 early Thursday morning destroying the kitchen, said owner Debbie Koontz.

The wreck occurred at 12:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck swerved to miss a deer and ran into the window area of the brick building, said Molly Ridenhour, Koontz’s daughter.

“No one was there at the time. Our early morning shift had not come in yet, and I had left a couple hours before,” Koontz said.

The kitchien is completely destroyed, she said. Walls were torn down and equipment damaged.

“The central part of the bakery is where the truck landed,” Koontz said.

Although the bakery will not meet their holiday orders, they are in the midst of construction and expect to be completed by next week.

Larry McDaniel Builders, of Mocksville, is completing the construction.

Koontz said the construction began the same day of the accident.

“Everybody is trying real hard,” Koontz said. “We’ll be back open next Friday.”
