Apparently some folks still enjoy a little of that good old mountain dew — even if it’s illegal to make at home.

A Mount Pleasant man was charged Tuesday with possessing non-tax paid alcohol and equipment to make liquor.

Larry Junior Huneycutt, 59, faces several counts involving non-tax paid alcohol: manufacturing it, possessing equipment to manufacture it, selling it and possessing it without proper Alcohol Beverage Control permits.

Cabarrus County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agency executed a search warrant Tuesday at 11001 Cruse Road. Investigators had received a tip earlier that illegal alcohol sales were going on at that location.

Investigators found an estimated 10-gallon liquor still and a one-gallon liquor still, 200 gallons of “mash” (fermented mashed corn, yeast, sugar and flavoring) and 17 quart jars of liquor.

Huneycutt was freed after posting $10,000 secured bond.
