Debbie DePompa has been chosen as the 2006 North Carolina Art Education Association’s Elementary Art Educator of the Year.

DePompa has worked for Kannapolis City Schools for 16 years and teaches art education to Forest Park and Woodrow Wilson elementary school students. She is a National Board Certified teacher, a 2006 Terry Sanford award finalist and traveled to Japan in 2004 as a Fulbright Scholar.

DePompa was Forest Park’s 2005 Teacher of the Year and was Kannapolis City Schools’ Teacher of the Year runner-up last year. She is working on her master’s degree.

DePompa is another example of the outstanding teachers in Kannapolis City Schools. At Monday’s Kannapolis City Board of Education meeting, they recognized her with a certificate.
