Instead of sending out dozens of Christmas cards to friends and family this holiday season, Susan and Benny Bernhardt donated the money.
The Salisbury couple donated $40 to this year’s Christmas Happiness Fund.
“I guess that would reach more people than maybe a card would,” Susan said.
Most people get cards and eventually throw them away so the Bernhardts thought the money would be better used. They usually give to the fund each year in honor of different people.
They usually send about 30 cards to friends and family who live in the area. They have out of town relatives they send cards to as well.
“We still may send it to them,” Susan said.
Susan said she’s always admired anyone who donates money to help such causes.
“It’s a great thing. We should think of others not only this year, but all year,” she said.
Benny is a Rowan native and Susan moved to the area when she was in the ninth grade.
Christmas Happiness contributions can be brought to the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St., between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays or mailed to The Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, P.O. Box 4639 Salisbury, NC 28145-4639.
Make checks payable to the Christmas Happiness Fund and indicate how you want your donation listed.
