Wildlife classes for home schoolers
Wildlife classes are being offered this fall for home-schooled students in Rowan County.
The 4-H Wildlife Classes are taught by Melody Wilkes, a naturalist from A Walk in the Woods environmental education company. Classes consist of eight weeks of 90-minute workshops for ages 7 and up.
Classes meet Thursdays from 12:30- 2 p.m. beginning Aug. 28 at the Rowan County Cooperative Extension office at 2727-A Old Concord Road. Cost is $85 per student.
Programs consist of hands-on interaction with rare and endangered artifacts from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, educational displays, slide shows and live animal demonstrations. Take-home materials are provided.
Scheduled classes are Aug. 28, insects; Sept. 4, N.C. Wildlife; Sept. 18, wetlands; Oct. 2, coral reefs and sharks; Oct. 30, bats; Nov. 13, reptiles; Nov. 20, birds; Dec. 11, Community Wildlife Service Project
