A West Rowan Middle School student was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital after being hit in the side of the head with a baseball at tryouts Wednesday.
Taylor Garczynski was conscious Thursday at Carolinas Medical Center and showing improvement, according to an e-mail sent to other parents, but he was still listed in critical condition.
Rita Foil, spokesperson for the school system, confirmed the injury happened about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
She said the injured student was hit in the head near his ear. He was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center before being transferred to CMC.
Foil said the player’s mother was able to get to her son before the ambulance arrived. Foil said when she spoke to the mother Thursday, she told her that her son was improving but she wasn’t sure how long he’d have to stay in the hospital.
