David Wright Beard graduated with distinction May 11 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.
As a Robertson Scholar at UNC, Beard spent one semester studying at Duke University in Durham. He interned in the mountains of Kentucky at Appalshop during the summer of 2005, and he spent 10 weeks serving in South Africa the summer of 2006.
He was co-president of the Young Democrats at UNC and interned in the John Edwards campaign for 18 months.
He is working as a regional field organizer for the Gary Peters for Congress campaign in Troy, Mich.
A 2004 graduate of West Rowan High School, he is the son of Jim and Susan Beard.
