Tourism board meeting Wednesday

A Harley rally, occupancy taxes and marketing initiatives are on the agenda for the Rowan County Tourism Development Authority Board meeting Wednesday.
Don Bringle, county parks and recreation director and chairman of the tourism board, will conduct his final meeting. Dan Peters, town manager of Granite Quarry, has been elected as the new chairman.
The board will hear reports on the Harley Davidson rally scheduled for June 26-28 in Salisbury.
James Meacham, executive director of the tourism authority will report on strategic planning efforts and give an update on the bookings for the county fairgrounds.
Bringle will update the board on a timeline for a proposed doubling of the occupancy tax from 3 to 6 percent.
The board will also have a closed session to evaluate the work of Meacham and consider a salary increase.
The board meets at noon Wednesday at the Gateway Building, 204 E. Innes St.
