Three people have been charged with murder in the death of Thomas Vogt Jr.
The three were previously charged with attempted murder and convicted following the shooting in September 2005. Vogt died May 7, 2008.
Chandaliea Lowder, Michael McDowell and Jason Sullivan now face murder charges. They are serving sentences for the attempted murder charges.
Vogt died in Phoenix, Ariz., and doctors there determined his death was a result of the 2005 shooting. They contacted the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the Rowan County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office presented the case to the Rowan County grand jury. Lowder, McDowell and Sullivan were indicted for first-degree murder.
In 2005, the Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting near 455 Russell Farm Road, Kannapolis. Vogt was shot in the neck and left for dead in a wooded area near the address. He survived the shooting, but was left a quadriplegic.
The three suspects were brought to the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday and then were taken to Superior Court for an arraignment. All three suspects have returned to the Department of Corrections to continue serving their present sentences.
