Charges are pending for a Charlotte man who led Kannapolis Police officers on a chase on southbound I-85 today.
At 10:25 this morning, officers were responding to a shoplifting and fight in progress at the Super Target at 6150 Bayfield Parkway, Kannapolis.
During the arrest, a handcuffed Ricky Allen Giles, 33, fled on foot and was able to get into the vehicle he was using. The car had been stolen from Charlotte.
The suspect twice rammed a marked Kannapolis police vehicle, disabling it.
Giles fled the area and another Kannapolis officer started chasing him on Interstate 85. The chase ended in Charlotte on I-77 when the suspect wrecked and was taken into custody by the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Giles, whose last known address was 3130 Sharon Amity Road, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center. The extent of his injuries are unknown. The investigation is continuing.
