FOREST CITY (AP) ó State officials are holding a public hearing to consider a Duke Energy Corp. proposal that seeks a revised air-quality permit for a coal-fired power generator under construction in western North Carolina.
The North Carolina Division of Air Quality has scheduled a hearing in Forest City on Thursday. The Charlotte-based utility has applied for a new permit so the new Cliffside generator can be considered a ěminorî source of pollution.
Facilities that are a ěminorî source of pollution do not have to go through a review to ensure it is using the ěmaximum-achievableî technology to control emissions.
A second public hearing will be held on Jan. 22 in Statesville.
