Off-duty Salisbury police officers will spend the weekend on the roof of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, 1428 W. Innes Stree to solicit donations for the Toys for Tots Program, sponsored nationally by the Marine Corps Reserve.
People wishing to donate to Toys for Tots are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations to the Salisbury Police Department lobby, 130 E. Liberty St., or to the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts location during normal business hours.
Checks should be made payable to the Toys for Tots Foundation. All monetary donations, including cash, checks and gift cards, will be turned over to the Toys for Tots program for additional toy purchases. Donations for boys and girls, infant to 15 years, will be collected with 100 percent of all donations supporting children within the Rowan County area.
Officers will commence their vigil at approximately 6 a.m. Friday and remain “up on the rooftop” until Sunday at approximately 6 p.m. Krispy Kreme will remain open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. People can look for the “hot” light to stay on all night and will receive free doughnut coupons as they stop by to make a donation to Toys for Tots.
Santa Claus will offer periodic site visits throughout the weekend to provide support for volunteers and to encourage donations.
