Andre Jordan, a 2008 graduate of Salisbury High School, has received the Walter G. Jones Memorial Scholarship to continue his education at Fayetteville State University.
Jordan is the son of the late Ann Jordan and nephew of Catherine Jordan, his guardian.
The Jones award is valued at $1,000 per year. It was created by Wayland Mitchell in honor of his Cub Scout leader and mentor, Dr. Walter G. Jones.
Mitchell also created a $1,500 scholarship honoring Eunice Powers, Doris Jones and Mrs. Abner Lancaster, his former teachers at J.C. Price High School.
Brittany Teamer, a junior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is the recipient of the second scholarship.
