By Holly Fesperman LeeSalisbury PostA man with a gun stole money and Cheerwine from the Rushco Convenience Store on Jake Alexander Boulevard early this morning.
An employee working in the store at 601 Jake Alexander Blvd. told police a man came in and bought cigarettes around 3:15 a.m.
The same man returned at 4:17 a.m., went to the soft drink cooler and took out a Cheerwine, according to a Salisbury Police Department report.
The man went to the counter to pay for the Cheerwine and placed $1 on the counter. Then, he took out a Crown Royal liquor bag , put it on the counter and told the employee to give him all the money, starting with the $20 bills, the report said.
The suspect, described as a black man about 5 feet 7 inches with a stocky build and wearing a black do-rag, long black T-shirt and dark jeans, lifted his shirt and showed the clerk a semi-automatic handgun tucked in his pants.
The man picked up the Crown Royal bag and the Cheerwine and walked towards Mooresville Road.
Police hadn’t arrested anyone Monday night.
The Subway restaurant on Jake Alexander Boulevard was also robbed over the weekend, but police don’t think the two are connected.
