RoMedical's Proctor named N.C. Athletic Trainer of the Year – Business briefs

Dean Proctor has been named the North Carolina Athletic Trainer of the Year in Clinical/Industrial for 2008 by the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association.
Proctor has worked in RoMedical’s Orthopaedic division for nine years. He works with the seven local high school athletic training programs in the Salisbury area.
He graduated in 1995 from Catawba College with a bachelor of arts degree in sports medicine. He began his career in physical therapy before moving into the orthopaedics division at RoMedical, where he assists in surgeries at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
He also directs a free Saturday morning sports injury clinic each fall.
The award was presented by Robert Casmus, head athletic trainer at Catawba.
Proctor and wife Alisha live in the Salisbury area with daughter Keely, 8.
QuickBooks course
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Small Business Center will offer the QuickBooks Pro 2007 course.
QuickBooks and Your Business: Level 1 is scheduled 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays May 21-June 4 in Room 9253 at RCCC’s Cabarrus Business and Technology Center, 660 Concord Parkway North, Concord.
Tuition is $55. The textbook and other materials cost approximately $25.
Tony Phillips, a certified public accountant with 20 years of professional experience, will be the instructor.

Brown safety fair
More than 100 employees of W. A. Brown & Son Inc. participated in the company’s annual Health and Safety Fair May 8.
Brown’s healthcare administrator, Corporate Benefits Services Inc., was on hand to discuss employee health-care benefits. Also available were Habitat for Humanity, Wachovia, Gentiva Health Services, Cooperative Extension Office, Members Credit Union, Weight Watchers, Unum Provident, The Forum, Home Instead, Saf Gard Safety Shoes, Rowan County Senior Services, Simply Good Natural Foods, Humane Society, Performance Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy Professionals, the YMCA and Northeast Medical Center.
The day included a free breakfast and drawings in which 61 employees received gifts, including a one-year membership to the YMCA.
“W.A. Brown and Son Inc. is committed to providing our team members with timely, relevant, educational information to assist them in improving their overall fitness, health, proper nutrition, safety, and quality of life,” said Pam Cordts, director of human resources.
Brown is the oldest private manufacturer of commercial walk-in coolers and freezers in the food service industry, continuously operating in Salisbury since 1910.
