Police say woman charged with child abuse drove on painkillers
Child abuse charge
A Salisbury woman was charged with child abuse after law enforcement discovered she’d taken a prescription painkiller before driving with her two children in the car, according to an arrest warrant.
The Salisbury Police Department charged Pamela Janelle Cain, 25, of 550 St. Matthews Road, with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
The incident occurred Saturday.
According to arrest warrants, Cain told an officer she’d taken the drug vicodin before driving her children, who were listed as being younger than 16, to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
The officer told a magistrate the woman was already at the hospital when she made her admission.
Cain was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $500 secured bond. Her first court appearance is Oct. 21.
